Who hasn’t heard of Messenger 8.5 yet? Just a few weeks after the release of the final version of Windows Live Messenger 8.1, rumors began circulating about the development of a new version (Messenger 8.5), which was even being distributed internally. Today we can clearly confirm that this version of Messenger 8.5 exists , and although it’s currently only available to Microsoft employees, it will soon be available to all users willing to try it out. And we say “willing to try” because it will be released as a beta (in testing).
Curiously, while version 8.1 brought a host of new features, for now the new Messenger 8.5 beta is only said to feature three significant changes:
- New design: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 features a design change clearly influenced by Windows Vista,
- New installer: in addition to installing Windows Live Messenger 8.5, it will invite us to try other Windows Live services such as its search engine or its toolbar for Internet Explorer,
- Enhanced security: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 has begun integrating with the new services offered by One Care , the new range of security products from Microsoft.
